1. Curtain Call
Well obviously we're going to kick off with our own podcast! In case you didn't know our weekly free podcast features a wealth of backstage interviews with some of the best in the business. We recently released our our 70th episode and it was a very special one, recorded in New York with the company of People, Places and Things. Listen and subscribe here.
2. Royal Court Playwrights
Simon Stephens hosts this fascinating series of discussions with a range of fellow leading playwrights. The first series featured names including Enda Walsh, Polly Stenham and David Hare and is currently available for download, while the second is now on its third episode. Listen to both here.
3. Honest Actors
We love this podcast from actor Jonathan Harden, which gets to the nub of the reality of life as a performer. Rather than famous names discussing their work, Harden instead speaks to a range of actors at various stages of their careers to find out what happens when the spotlight is turned off. Although it's now on hiatus the archive is a treasure trove. Explore it here.
4. National Theatre
The National launched a new podcast this year which takes a look at the issues surrounding the work on its stages. The first ten episodes cover themes ranging from Brexit to Masculinity, with guests including Ed Miliband, Cush Jumbo and Harriet Walter. Listen to them all here.
5. Theatre Voice
One of the longest established names in the field recently relaunched as a weekly podcast. Typically featuring a critic in conversation with a practitioner, subjects featured so far include Peter Brook, Nick Starr and Thelma Holt, alongside some interesting discoveries in the archive. Catch up with them here.
6. Show People
Hosted by theatre director Andrew Keates, Show People blends interviews with news and general industry chatter. As well as being very entertaining Keates and his guests also explore serious issues, including his own experience with HIV. Listen and subscribe here.
7. This Week on Broadway
Having been running since 2009 this is the longest-established Broadway podcast and undoubtedly one of the best. Featuring a mix of news, reviews and interviews it's the ideal one-stop-shop for anyone looking for an overview of what's happening on the Great White Way. Listen here (there is also a daily edition).
As their own description states, "We're drunk on musical theatre. Literally." This irreverent, sideways and - yes - inebriated look at all things showbiz is a hilarious listen. Recent guests have included Frozen composer Robert Lopez and the cast of British import The Play That Goes Wrong. Listen here.
9. Reduced Shakespeare Company Podcast
Last, but certainly not least (even though they are constantly reducing)...You many have heard about this company reducing everything Shakespeare, American History, Biblical and more... But this podcast isn't reduced in any way. It's been going for over 10 years! Guests are recorded during the company's many travels and with something there for every theatre fan...and professional. Listen here.
