News round-up: Brigstocke plays Barnum, Sosanya joins Frozen

In this week's theatre news:

The Menier Chocolate Factory has announced casting for its forthcoming production of Barnum. Marcus Brigstocke and Laura Pitt-Pulford (pictured) will star as P.T. Barnum and Charity Barnum, alongside Tupele Dorgu (Joice Heth), Harry Francis (Tom Thumb) and Celinde Schoenmaker (Jenny Lind). The company also features Danny Collins, Eamonn Cox, Rosie Fletcher, Ainsley Hall Ricketts, Courtney Hows, Bethany Huckle, Philip Marriott, Dominic Owen and Lucie-Mae Summer. Gordon Greenberg’s production opens on 5 December (previews from 25 November) and runs until 3 March 2018.

Nina Sosanya will play Agnetha in next year's production of Bryony Lavery's play Frozen at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Jonathan Munby's production, which opens in February, also stars Suranne Jones and Jason Watkins. The play centres on the disappearance of a 10-year-old girl.

The Donmar Warehouse has announced its new season, which features the UK premiere of Amy Herzog's Belleville starring James Norton and Imogen Poots, and revivals of Peter Gill's The York Realist and Congreve's Restoration comedy The Way of the World. Read our full story.

Casting has been announced for Cinderella, this year's panto at the Hackney Empire. Aisha Jawando plays the title role, with Tony Whittle and Kat B as the Ugly Sisters, Peter Straker as Baron Hardup, Darren Hart as Buttons and director/writer Susie McKenna as the Wicked Stepmother.

The Young Vic has appointed actor, writer and director Kwame Kwei-Armah as its new artistic director. Kwei-Armah, who recently stepped down as artistic director of Centre Stage in Baltimore, takes the reins from David Lan next year. Read our blog.

Producers of An American in Paris have announced its closing date Dominion Theatre. The Tony-winning screen-to-stage musical, directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, will play its final performance on 6 January 2018.

Burgeoning fringe venue Theatre N16 is on the search for a new home after being evicted from its home at The Bedford pub in Balham. Executive director Jamie Eastlake said: "This is a call to arms. We have to find somewhere - and we need help."

Les Miserables star Samantha Barks has been cast in the new Broadway musical version of Pretty Woman. She'll play Vivian, the role created on screen by Julia Roberts, opposite Steve Kazee as Edward. Jerry Mitchell's production premieres in Chicago in March ahead of Broadway.

Mark Gatiss will play the title role in Alan Bennett's The Madness of King George III as part of Adam Penford's inaugural season as artistic director of Nottingham Playhouse. The season also features revivals of Beth Steel's Wonderland and the musical Sweet Charity. Read our full story.
